Just bought a new upper triple clamp .
After going through the Clymer and Factory manuals the only info I can find
involves replacing the whole steering stem (upper and lower).
I want to replace the top triple only !
So my question is: Can I just take off the top triple clamp by itself ?
Without removing the forks ?

If I can take just the upper off , is there any special steps I need to take when installing the new one ?

Thanks

That top nut above the triple clamp (steering stem) is strictly for holding the upper clamp on. The steering stem nut is below the upper triple. Loosen the bolts on the forks, remove everything else attached to the clamp and lift 'er off. Installation is the reverse. I don't think there's anything special to know. I had to loosen the clipons on the tubes so I could gain access to some of the bolts.

The service manual has torque settings for all those bolts.

What upper triple did you buy?

Thanks Robben

Sounds like it should be fairly easy.

Now you know why I prefer the Clymer over the "Factory" manual.

Suzuki NOS
$65 from eBay

I like the custom ones that Manito had made.

I'd really like to keep my bike "stock",so
it's not always easy to resist the temptation............

Wouldn't have cost too much more than that for one of Manito's... And I'm having a hard time keeping mine stock, but what I did was keep the stock parts. Anything I put on can be taken off if/when the time comes I need it stock again.

Make sure that you tighten the big stem nut before you tighten the fork clamp bolts. Troy341
