My question is regarding how much is good. I have Dunlop D207's. I generally keep them a bit high at around 38psi is this right or wrong and should it be the same for front and back? Thanks.

36-38 is not tooo bad if you only commute or like to ride in a straight line alot, it will give the tyres better mileage.. if you like to ride in the twisties, then i recomend 32-35psi and on the track, 30-32 psi.. normally 1 -2 psi extra in the rear tyre from the front, since it is normally under more load

35 for street riding , 32 for track. Higher pressure does not save tyres though.Prolly make em wear out quicker in the middle if anything else.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Uhmmmm IN fact they do last longer.. You get a smaller contact patch and this turns into les tire wear... Take it from someone that runs a soft race tire on the street and can still pull two track days and 2K street miles...

i run 36psi front and rear
the tyre does last longer with higher pressure because of the reduced contact patch
lower pressure gives a bigger contact patch which in turn gives the tyre increased temperature

I am not entirely convinced but will research it a bit more. Smaller contact patch means more pressure (weight) on smaller contact patch meaning more wear imho. Will reduce fuel consumption though.

I posed this question regarding tyre pressure to a racer/dealer an herewith his reply:

"OK I have asked this question before, now the thing with over inflated
tyres is you increase the chance of punctures, as well as reduce the
mileage on the tyre because you have less contact with the road in the
centre of the tyre therefore the centre will "square off" quicker than a
tyre with slightly more contact with the road. What you must also keep
in mind is if you over inflate a tyre when cold the tyre pressure will
dramatically increase as you ride and the tyre heats up, hence you will
have a drastically over inflated tyre which will result in even more
ware on the centre of the tyre. You will also pick up slits in the tyre
because the rubber is less forgiving and will split when hit by a sharp
object. I found this to be the case with my rear tyre so I brought it
down to below what the manual states for my rear tyre and solved all my
problems. I also found with a over inflated tyre the back was sliding
out on me in sharp corners, a direct result of an over inflated tyre
which leads to less rubber on the tar, and less grip. I do not know if
this helps at all but this is what I found out when I asked the same
question."
