I was able to put everything back in the Clutch case yesterday; snapshots:














I took her out for a ride and all systems are GTG!

Happy New Year!

Went for a ride to Santa Monica, CA yesterday...not a bad trip (58 miles) from the Inland Empire...and I got there quick too!

Snapped this pic in front of Gladstones then ate some lunch.


Headed over to Dodger Stadium and enjoyed the view.



Then on my way to Griffith Observatory and had this happen.


Hitting up Yamaha of Rancho for a replacement clutch cable. (I think I'll buy 2 of them) The adventure continues with my GS.

I picked up my clutch cable in Rancho before heading back to NM on Jan 4th. Before that, I eval'd my MC/Caliper and decided to get a braided line (since I only have a single caliper in front). Picked one up for $26 in Monclair.

I've since soaked the brake parts in Safety Kleen and painted them. I've got a couple of brackets to finish painting and I'll be gtg. Ordered replacement parts and they are due today. Looks like tomorrow (Sat) will be a good day to start putting everything back together.

Been looking forward to riding and I can hardly wait.

Throttle Cable Eval - 8Mar2014

The New Braided line and rebuilt MC/Caliper are working fine. Now I've got to investigate the Throttle Cable. I had an incident where the throttle grip locked up and would not release causing a serious increase in RPMs. I'll probably have to order an OEM Throttle Cable from partsoutlaw.

Took my dual pipes off because the oil pan cover needs a new gasket. Might as well get a new v&h 4-1 pipe...will be delivered this week along with Progressive Shocks.



Here's how she sits with cover off:









I will do maintenance on her on 29 Mar...then I will post pics of the newly installed pipes/shocks. The new pipes will help me shed 30 lbs off the bike.

What a difference a year makes. Here's a couple of shots of my "T" when I first started riding her and now:

January 2012 on Dover Air Force Base:


April 2014 on Holloman Air Force Base:


Improvements include:

1. V&H 4-1 Exhaust/Main Jets changed from 112.5 to 117.5
2. Progressive Rear Shocks
3. Changed fork oil from 10W to 30W
4. Rebuilt MC-Caliper/Braided Line
5. Steel insert installed on Oil Pan/new gasket
6. "L" seat replaced with correct "T" seat
7. New Side Mirrors
8. Valve Adjustment
9. Installed New Clutch Cable
10. Removed the non-matching side covers

Next projected improvements/maintenance:

1. Install fork brace
2. Install 530 conversion
3. Rebuild the Cam Chain Tensioner
4. Install new speedo/tach cable
5. Get some side covers; preferably something fabricated from a machine shop

She's running great right now but above improvements will make a world of a difference.

Been a while...the only items I've done are the Fork Brace and tach cable and that was when I was in NM before going to FL in Jul/2014. She's been sitting for two years in our garage. I'm such a terrible owner...lol.

Jedz,

After having the entire Garage Door Unit replaced, (Enduring Panels/Precision 300, LiftMaster Opener, All New Rails/Ball-Bearing Rollers) I cleaned up my garage and discovered a bike against the wall.

I plugged the battery tender until the light turned Green indicating good charged battery. Then I pressed the ignition button and the motor turns. Hello! I need to evaluate the Carbs. First, I noticed how bad the ignition switch assembly looks. I used some packing tape to keep it intact while I was riding in NM. :hammer The plastic surrounding it was brittle and loose. Logged onto PartsOutlaw and ordered me a new one as well as the bolt lock washer.

Well, time to start assessing the fuel flow. Pics are as follows:

Removed the Carbs this weekend and having them rebuilt by a GSResources expert.





In the meantime, I have plenty of tasks to complete:

R2 (Remove & Replace)
Ignition Switch
Fuel Pet Cock
Fork Seal Rebuild
Tank Cleaning
Cam Chain Tensioner Rebuild

Other Tasks:
530 Chain Conversion
Frame Welding on grab rail mount

I am looking forward to riding my "T" after two years of her sitting.

TKR and My Bike

Well, I haven't gotten very far with my tasks. About the only thing I do is work and come home and rest my weary knees. Severe osteoarthritis has me spending my evenings (M-F) icing my right knee and then I pretty much don't wanna move around too much.

I've been getting cortisone shots every 6 months for the past year and a half but it's only temporary relief. In late January of this year, I decided to pull the trigger upon the recommendation from my orthopedic doctor for a Total Knee Angioplasty. Surgery was performed on March 21st and my recovery is going well. Since my left knee is bowed as was my right, I am having it replaced and straightened as well 4 weeks after the first...which is this coming Wednesday April 18th.

So here's how my bike sits...as well as the stitch job I got from my first surgery. Thanks for reading my story.
