I am writing a fitness book "The Science of Fitness: Power, Performance, and Endurance" with arguably the best American athlete of all time, Greg LeMond. The final chapters have been written and the book is currently being prepared for publication for release at the end of the year (hopefully sooner). The book is currently listed as a pre-order item at Amazon.com. If the link below does not work, just got to Amazon Books and search "Greg LeMond" to find the title and read more about it. Because it is not released yet, there are no consumer reviews available, but I posted some of our glowing peer reviews, the Table of Contents, and author mini-bios. The publisher is Elsevier, the largest science book publisher in the world, and so our book will be sold in English all over the world about a month after it is released in the US, and then later translated into many languages. Although it explains the science behind exercise, I wrote it in an easy to read style, with many entertaining side bars and priced affordably. Although my coauthor was world class competitor, most of the advice is geared for everyday recreational and fitness athletes. I took the time to scour the current medical and exercise physiology scientific literature (over 240 references listed) and condensed it into a practical and readable book for everyday athletes. The publisher believes "The Science of Fitness: Power, Performance, and Endurance" will be a very important book and has already contracted us to write a second follow-up textbook version (twice as long, even more scientific detail, hard cover, and more expensive) due out later "Mitochondrial Fitness: the Science of Athletic Energy" because the concept has so many health and disease prevention implications.

Thanks,
WildRice

The Science of Fitness: Power, Performance, and Endurance is intended for athletes of all sports and all abilities. We explain physical fitness as a whole body process at the organ system level, then delve deeper into the cellular and subcellular levels to show how athletes derive their power from the powerhouses of their cells, the mitochondria. We explain the biology behind nutrition, hydration, toxicity, and physical training like no other previous fitness book, using clear language that is easy to follow. Mitochondria are at the center of health and vitality and also central to disease prevention and the aging process. This approach will help bridge the gap between cellular biology and exercise fitness and provide a unique yet very practical perspective on human performance. The Science of Fitness will give competitive and elite athletes an edge in achieving natural, optimal performance, and also help recreational athletes who want to improve fitness. It will be of great benefit to all wanting to improve overall health and vitality. By learning the science of fitness, you will understand why training makes your body more energized and powerful.

A presentation of human physiology at the organ and cellular levels to explain why fitness is a biologic process. Fitness is built one cell at a time.

Mitochondria are the basis of fitness training. They generate human energy, increase with exercise, and diminish with inactivity.

A detailed explanation of exactly how frequent and strenuous exercise improves fitness, builds muscle, burns fat, maintains health, and slows the aging process.

Nutrition and hydration explained at the cellular level, super foods that are great for you, and unhealthy foods you should avoid.

How exercise strengthens the mind.

A case study of Greg LeMond: being the fittest athlete of his era, what it takes to win the Tour de France, how to train like a champion, to being diagnosed with an acquired mitochondrial myopathy.

A condensation of the current knowledge in exercise physiology, yet easy to read, and backed by over 240 scientific literature references. What the modern athlete needs to know.

The book is released and selling well internationally. Out of 25,000 active Elsevier book titles, our book was the number one featured book on all 121 Elsevier Store international home pages during the Holiday season.

I was on local TV last week on WTVR CBS-6 "Virginia This Morning" with an interview about my book "The Science of Fitness" with a tie in to the 2015 Richmond world cycling championships. After the segment was filmed, the producer (Torri Strickland) and the interviewer (Greg McQuade) said I did a wonderful job and McQuade invited me to come back on the show again. I made him laugh when I told him what to expect when you send a manuscript to a celebrity and I impressed him with my wife's and my own fitness accomplishments. It was the 5 minute lead segment of the show. Tell me what you think.

Here's the link to the video (or as I call it my 5 minutes of fame):
