I need to know what kinds of adjustment can be done to the stock suspension. The forks have a slotted adjuster at the top (rusted and seized on my bike
)

Does this do anything? is there some hidden adjusters anywhere?

What weight fork oil do you guys run?

Can anything be done with the rear shock for cheap?

the slotted adjuster up top is for spring preload, the adjuster at the bottom of the fork is for compression damping, i believe.....if i remember correctly, the preload adjuster has only like 4 'clicks' to it.....

you'd need to remove the top fork caps if you want to unseize the adjusters.

yeah....just get a big socket (don't know the size offhand) or a wrench and unscrew the fork caps. you'll need to prop up the motor somehow first otherwise it'll fall on its face...

you might want to consider getting the forks reworked....at the very least, the fork oil is way past its expiration date if the previous owner hadn't changed it....

mr gixxer
my forks just done
the neas units are 3 settings really do not work
and the top slotted screwdriver 4 settings
make sure they are set to each the same.

i went riding with those caps and it is stiff cannot even lift the wheel off the ground cuz if i do the smash from the ground shakes the bike bad and rocks the steerring all over the place.
So i have to slot out a vein in the plate to connect the two hole together. all should be good.

yeah i know what you mean.....i guess for now, leave it alone unless you really want to unseize the adjusters....

the motor's being choked by the stock exhaust and airbox....an aftermarket pipe, individual filters, and a rejet should give you at least 10-15hp easily....

Hey Gixx, isn't that fork a dampning rod item as opposed to a cartridge fork? If so, the only adjustment you can do stock is preload and oil weight change (unless you pull the rod out and fuck with the hole size). You won't have rebound/compression damping like the GSXR750 of the same year did. Like you mention, a cartridge emulator would probably do the trick. Given the total cost in $CDN, you might wanna check with Supersport to see if they have a set of cartridge forks that would/could/might move in.

I don't know fuck about the NEAS. Gave up on that shit when I found out that the old Honda equivalents didn't work either. I _think_ gixxerjoey has written some stuff about modding that....at any rate, he seems to be the resident expert on that stuff anyway.

I'm running 10wt on my beast, which is working out fine after a season on 7.5 to check it out. Don't know how that translates, but since neither of us is exactly puny, you might want to start higher than whatever the factory recommends.

Hey, check the Ride Club - we gotta get together, even if just for a short zip.

yeah, it's a damping rod fork....now that you mention it, the adjuster at the bottom of the fork legs is most likely to adjust the anti-dive (so it's like a compression damping adjustment).....if you remove the anti-dive units and simply replace them with a blockoff plate, it'll basically cause the fork to lock up on compression. there needs to be a provision for oil flow, a plate won't cut it.

so basically, if you remove the anti-dive, you'll need to revalve the fork....since that's not something that agrees with you financially right now, hold off on ditching the anti-dive.

I just pulled the fork cap off, and found a one inch thick piece of solid aluminum on top of the springs.

I do not believe they are supposed to be there stock, so I pulled em out and reassembled. The preload was set at full out (least preload), so I assume whoever owned it first installed these blocks.

I will see how it handles now, but I do need to replace the oil as it looks like shit.

yeah, that shouldn't be there....there's supposed to be a thinnish washer there, but that's just so that the preload adjuster can push down on the fork spring. if it's an inch thick it sounds like whoever did it wanted more preload than the adjuster could provide.

either that, or the adjusters are so frozen that he had to resort to using spacers to increase preload instead of using the adjusters themselves...

were you able to unseize the adjusters?
