Hi guys,

My steering damper on the 750 1990 L Model was leaking when I bought the bike.....so anyway I will need to replace the seals but I also will probably need to add oil, or while open change it completely.
Does anyone know how much and what oil comes in it, or how much air gap (like in fork services) is necessary ?

Or does anyone have a "manual" where this is described with pics etc....there is no chapter in the works manual on the steering damper...

Later years used dampers made by KYB and replacement seals were not sold for them. I'm not familiar with your bike but suspect that they may have made it too. Do you know their president? Steering dampers are normally liquid full, i.e. no air gap. The oil is often said to be 5 weight but I've also seen 2.5 weight mentioned. Perhaps someone here that's more familiar with 1990 vintage models will know more.

i have a original one on my 1990L 750 and its a sealed unit.
most aftermarket ones are serviceable but not the oem one
