03 gsxr 1000 went to start yesterday and heard a screeching noise as it did. Ran it down the road and then highway. About 5 miles in exited off the highway and it died out. Went to start back up and heard a little of that screeching noise and it cranks slow and a little but doesn’t turn over. Battery has 12.42v.. when hit the start button drops down to 8v. Put new battery in and same thing. Is this that stator? What could that screeching noise have been, magneto, rotor, starter clutch?

Something is dragging the system down. It could be motor related or electrical. If it was me I would be looking at the starter first unless the bike was running poorly when it was making that noise.
Could you take a guess where that noise was coming from, what area anyway?

I was also going to ask which side the screeching is coming from? But it might not be possible
to determine, now that the bike doesn't start.
It may also not be a good idea to run it with the screeching noise anyway.

There have been a few cases of Stator Bolts coming loose. Especially after the stator has been replaced and the bolts not tightened to specs. It is recommended to use some Locktite on these Bolts as well.

It might be worth checking if you run out of ideas.

noise definitely sounded like it was coming from down by the stator. After the noise it sounded kind of like something was rubbing. The screeching noise was so similar to a belt or pulley on a car.

Well even if I go to try and turn it over you can hear a faint screeching noise. Sounds similar to a belt or pulley on a car. The previous owner did tell me he replaced the stator. It also sounded like something was rubbing after that screeching went away. It was only present for maybe two seconds after the bike started. Even when I go to turn it over now you can hear a faint screeching noise like it’s trying to turn but then just doesn’t have the power

Pop that stator cover off and have a look. Make sure you have a new gasket on hand too. The old one is almost never reusable.
It could very well be a loose stator bolt. If they look fine I would still pull them out and locktite them just for piece of mind.
