I've heard people people removing these without the special tool. Maybe if you do some digging you'll find an answer.

You mean you've heard of people doing a piss poor job.....

Some people have taken a cheap impact socket from Harbor Freight and a dremmel and cut their own. You're better off just buying the right tool.

Depends how good you are with a dremmel ;D.

Maybe if you have a bike shop close to you you could ask to borrow a tool or to crack the nut for ya.

Otherwise yeh, just buy one

I bought a Craftsman socket and cut/sanded it. Works perfectly.

I do that kinda stuff for a living though. It isn't for everyone, that is for sure.

Made mine with an .045 wafer wheel on a 4.5" angle grinder. Like a hot knife through butter ;)

If I had a mill, I'd make my own. But for my bike (05 600), I could buy both motion pro tools for under $100. My time and sanity is worth that.

autozone
not sure if they have the right size but they have the tool. also not sure you really need it but the right tool will always save you a ton of time. if your thinking you want it hit up the auto parts stores...or harbor freight.

Autozone? :D You're a little late but unless things have changed lately I highly doubt you can buy such a tool at Autozone!
