I was thinking of polishing them to look chrome like, but the previous owner looks like the allen heads are stripped and may not come off. What is the easiest and fastest method to strip the paint and chrome these, as well as my swingarm. It is in the same condition. This is a 1990 GXSR-750. On the swingarm, some of the paint looks like it was stripped by the owner previously to try and chrome it, and when I polish these areas it really looks nice. How can I get the rest of the paint off easily. I tried paint stripper, doesnt work.

The only parts that *should* be painted are the spring and the exterior of the shockbody. The swingarm was not factory painted, just annodized with a clear layer to prevent oxidation.

The *safest* and best way to guarentee that nothing gets damaged to prevent a rebuild of the shock is to have it "bead blasted". A bead blaster sprays the part with glass beads that will remove paint but not metal. Then a part can be polished and chromed or polished and reannodized.

The chroming process involves dipping the part in a acid bath for metal preparation before it is dipped in varying solutions of the chroming process. The acid will remove paint and rust but doesn't polish.

That indicates the previous owner removed the factory annidozation layer and made it shiney. You can periodicly keep it polished and it will look fine.
