I am going to be selling my black 2016 GSX-R750 in order to pay for school. The bike is essentially brand new, still under warranty, never down, garage kept. 100% in mint condition. No mechanical issues. It has even had a cover on it when not in use. Looking to get $8000 for the bike. Let me know if you are interested. Going to be putting it up within the next month. I am located in Maryland. The bike has approximately 250 miles total on it.

250 miles and you're already selling it? IF you get $8,000, you're still taking like a $4,000 loss..not counting the M4 exhaust/tank pads/any other minor mods you've done.

Rotate and save the picture before uploading.

:cheers

I am fine with the $4000 loss to be honest. That is the only way I am going to move the bike. Someone can think of it as getting basically a brand new bike minus depreciation...because that's exactly what it is with extras like the exhaust, tank protectors, cover, etc.

Question for everyone. Since I am selling my bike, should I allow test rides? At the very least I plan to require a valid motorcycle endorsement, keep the person's license, cash in hand, car keys, proof of insurance, and require they wear proper riding gear. I'm also going to draft up two copies of a Bill of Sale. Is this overkill? Any recommendations?

I've never test ridden a motorcycle where I have had to do anything more than show my ID. Then again, I'd never let someone even close to a new rider buy my bikes.

Looks like you're taking precautions but be very careful who you let ride it while it's registered/insured in your name. There's a potential liability issue for you if the person were to crash the bike.

It seems like that thing is essentially brand new, my bet is that someone would buy it without a test ride. If you're hesitant at all just tell them you'll ride it while they watch or meet at a mechanic of their choice if they want to have it looked over.

To be honest I don't want to let anyone ride the thing without purchasing it, but I also don't want them thinking I'm attempting to pull something shady...I appreciate the responses. Certain forums say they would never buy a bike without riding, but riding off on a bike that does 180+ doesn't really seem like a difficult task to me. I guess I could always get a local cop that I know involved. I mean if I say "no test rides" isn't that going to dissuade everyone from buying my bike?

I would never buy a bike, unless brand new from a dealer, that I have not ridden. That's why you can have them give you the cash in hand, or have them give you the car keys after verifying that it is their vehicle. Which is how I'd do it. And if they pay cash, make sure to buy a bill marker and mark the bills.

I agree if I can't shift it thru all the gears, I'm not interested. When I bought my bike I put my money in his hand. Told him this is not an assumption of purchase. If this thing comes back missing a gear or I don't want it, I'll be expecting the money back. If the tables were turned, I wouldn't let my bike out of the driveway without all the money, counted, marked, and verified, in my hand before he even sits on it.

You don't have to specifically state "no test rides" in your ad. Wait for them to bring it up and decide how you want to proceed based on the person's credibility. Some will be dissuaded some won't, do what makes you feel comfortable is my advice.

How do I make sure the bills are not counterfeit? I'll research marking bills. Obviously, it would be the preferred option, but I feel like it would be easy to hand over $8000 to me and at least some of those bills be fake...Once again I appreciate your help and the responses. Just trying not to get screwed here. I also totally understand the desire to test ride the bike, just again makes me nervous. Lol I guess I'm really showing my true colors here, feels like I have little faith in humanity! Also, what is your take on selling via cycletrader.com? So far those are the people that haven been the most serious about the bike. One guy even wants to put down a deposit to hold the bike. I have had a few Craigslist inquiries so far.

Have you ever paid for gas with a $100.00 bill? The cashier writes on it with a black marker. If the bill is fake the ink is dark dark brown. Almost black. If it's real, the ink is yellowish. You can buy bill markers on the interwebz, or potentially at your local office supply store.

Yeah I see now. Just did a bit of research on this. Someone stated this could be avoided via hairspray? I like what they offer on amazon with a UV light/marker combo. Might even get a counterfeit machine because I'm out of my mind paranoid lol! Thanks again!

I mean, in all reality, there are ways to check big bills without tools. Money has become harder and harder to create quality counterfeits. Armed with a bill checker and a little research, you should be able to take a stack of 50s or 100s and be able confidently rely on their authenticity.

I've never heard of the hairspray thing but that seems easily fixed. Lick your thumb and rub the corner of the bill before you test it. Hairspray isn't going to stay on the bill very good.

Since you're willing to take so much of a loss, why not sell it back to the dealership? They should be happy to buy it back.

I wish they would, but I don't think they will. I will inquire this week, but the kbb of what they would ask for it is pretty close to what I am selling it for...My sense is that they would low ball me and then sell it for around what I am asking for it...I have a few people lined up to come see it and one guy has a deposit down on the bike so we will see what happens.

Ended up selling my bike for $8750...I miss it already, but like having the money in my pocket more. Plus without a garage having a bike is tough. At least that is my $.02. The guy that purchased the bike from me lives in Philly and uses a van for his garage. He's currently got the thing parked in his living room waiting to track it and for the weather to turn. I think if/when I get another bike I'll try either a Ninja 300 or Fz-07. Although the new R6 will eventually be tempting on the used market.

Thank you everyone for your comments and help with selling my bike.
