I might sound stupid, i have just become the very proud owner of my first gsxr 600. It is an import built late 1997, how can i tell if it is a RV or RW model. Also i know what SRAD is but what is its actual purpose

I cant help with rv or rw... But the SRAD is to maintain the air box pressure across all the carbs at high speed... It is a nice name for Ram Air.. lol

Look at the VIN to determine what letter designation your bike is. The letter you're looking for (i.e. V or W or whatever) should be about the middle of the VIN and it will probably jump out at you. If you email me, I'll post a guide when I get home. Later.

Here's a guide, direct from my Clymer's manual.

Model (year) Frame Number/VIN
GSXR 600V (97) JS1GN78A V2100001 - on
GSXR 600W (98) JS1GN78A W2100001 - on
GSXR 600X (99) JS1GN78A X2100001 - on
GSXR 750T (96) JS1GN78A T2100001 - on
GSXR 750V (97) JS1GN78A V2100001 - on
GSXR 750W (98) JS1GN78A W2100001 - on
GSXR 750X (99) JS1GN78A X2100001 - on

I'm making an assumption that by 'import' you mean from the US. UK VINs are different. If you need that info, email me and I'll add it. It's sort of a pain in the ass to add, so I'll leave it off unless someone needs it.

IF it's a V, u've got the same model as me

ON my VIN and rego, the year is 1996, but it's a 97 model

U'll also notice, the 97 model only has rebound damping adjustments on the forks, whereas 98 onwards, they've got rebound and compression damping.
