Does anyone know the proper way to raise the tail height and lower the front? And how far should I go? I've gotten some help from others on the rear, but I want to solidify these suggestions. I ride a '97-750 and I am 197lbs, 6'1". I was riding yesterday and it felt like my front end was "floating" on me. It happened last saturday night too, but I wrote that off to being the road, and it was a little wet out that night. I don't want to lose confidence in my ride !!
Yesterday it was perfectly sunny and dry !! No excuse for that. My front tire is very new (about 500miles). Thank you guys for the help.

If it feels floaty... lowering the front will only mask the problem you have.. You need to find the problem and fix it.. It might be the springs (if they are stock get new ones.. you are to heavy for the stock springs). Are the valves set correct? When was the last time you had the oil in the forks cahnged, Are the head bearings tight? How much air did you have in your tire? Were the tires hot??

Lots of things that could make the front tire float.

i agree with john, several factors could be involved. i'm not sure what you mean by "floating". i understand pushing...this is when the bike is 'pushing' toward the outside of the corner and doesn't allow you to maintain the line you initially had chosen. tire pressure is very important in this situation. check your front end and retest on the same corner running both ways, i.e. right and left hander.

Hey freak, Thanks for the help. I am at a dis-advantage because I just purchased the bike, and I don't know too much about the history. I try to talk to the guy that sold it to my, but he is hard to track down. The bike doesn't shake at all. It's just when I am going in a straight line, the bike sometimes feels like it doesn't want to maintain the line I want it to. I am trying to learn how to raise the rear now and lower the front. I can't see me being too heavy !!! I think I am average size. I hope I don't have to go to the expense (at least, not right now) !! Thanx again.

cs-

its not that u r too heavy, its that u r too heavy 4 the stock springs that are 12000 miles old(if they are the original ones..) i think thats what john is gettin at.....im also too heavy (prob) 4 my springs although they have only 4000 miles of usage on them (if they are......). Who knows without servicing them - im thinking of maybe a change of the oil to a weight that is appropriate for me .........

i also want to do that rear raise, but you know the difficulties involved in doin something your unsure of with limited help................

sms

did u see me last nite??? i had trouble holdin the lines around curves that i wanted...some of it was that i had to try to maintain a constant distance from whovere was leadin....(and goin too damn slow IMHO)

If you are going in a straght line and it is trying to walk over the road, check your tires PSI... Keep it at about 32PSI...

Then if that doesnt help. turn out (counter Clockwise) the rebound (the small flat head adjuster on the top in the center of each fork). This will help to plant the tire better.

Thanx Freak,
That is a good question about how do you know if they were adjusted equally. A person would hope that the previous owner would know enough to adjust ANYTHING equally on both sides !!! My bike was rebuilt about 3K miles ago by a certified race tech that has a pretty good rep around here. If he did everything, I would tend to believe that the bike settings are right. The previous owner was only about 5'7", and 170lbs though. I think it's time to throw my hands in the air and take it to my tech. I adjusted my front springs when I first got it to make it softer. It was riding hard. I will work on this again (and the ride height) this weekend if I get some time.
Thanx again guys !!
