Hey guys, I bought a 530 chain, and front and rear sprockets for my 1981 GS750 16 valve.

EDIT Oh, I just found out when converting from 630 to 530 you have to buy a spacer... it all makes sense now. Disregard this post. Thanks.

When I took the old sprocket off, it appears that it has two metal sides to it and there’s 3 screws holding everything together. My new sprocket is much thinner than the old one because of these metal sides.

So I tried to unscrew it, and there was absolutely 0% chance those screws were coming out. I tried for hours, and eventually got so fed up with it that I drilled one of the screws out.

Anyway, I assume I have to have these side pieces, right?

Also as I was writing this I just realized I bought the wrong sprockets. I bought sprockets for a GS750E, and it only has two screw holes, and mine needs 3....

So if my assumption is correct, that means I’ll need to buy a new OEM front sprocket so I can get the side pieces, AND buy the correct front sprocket.

I have attached a picture to show the differences. Is there a place that would sell these pieces?

Do you guys know of any other solution for filling the gap due to not having the side pieces? Could I use washers or something? I’d assume not because they would constantly be scratching the sprocket...

I really don’t want to spend $70 on a OEM front sprocket, and I don’t trust buying a used on either because it’s likely their screws are rusted on too.
