Re: RECALL ON 2008-2009 models

Since there are still peeps who were not aware of this, I have made this a sticky so it wont sink back into the abyss. Hopefully this will notify those who don't know or didn't get a recall letter from Suzuki (2nd, 3rd, etc owners) so they can get this done.

Re: RECALL ON 2008-2009 models

So I got the reg/rec fixed when I got the first letter which is well over a year ago now. The other day electronics started playing up, SD and c93 codes, dash froze, then bike stalled. Took the bike into a local Suzuki shop and turns out its the reg/rec again. The service bloke said no worries it wont cost anything as its part of a factory recall.

I thought great, but am now thinking, if he checks and sees my bike has already had it done, are they required to fix it for free again?

Now it turns out that the stator is buggered. $600 for a new one or $300 for a rewound one.

Whats more likely:
a) The reg/rec failed burning out the stator
b) The stator failed burning out the reg/rec

??

From my time here, it is rare for the K8's to have rectifier issues, recall or not. There have been few if any threads on rectifier issues with the K8's whereas the K6/7 it is extremely common, so nothing to worry about in my opinion.

There is an easy way to know if your bike has already gone through the Rectifier Recall process already or not.

In the recall "Service Bulletin" instructions to the dealers, the mechanics are told to make a punch mark next to the VIN on your motorcycle once they have completed the rectifier replacement work. This punch mark is to be made on the VIN stamped at the steering head.

No punch mark means it was not done, go get it fixed.

You can find the "Service Bulletin" here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/ACM16614413/RCRIT-11V108-6909.pdf
On page 5 it says:
Place a punch mark on the frame at the end of the VIN to verify the repair has been done.
