Was trying to remove the 36mm rear axle nut and got to the end and found that I was spinning in place without the nut moving any further. Found that the other end of the axle was rounding out the bracket. Tried lodging something in between to have it stay in place, but just seemed to make it worse. Any ideas on how I can remove the nut? Much appreciated for any guidance anyone can offer

What's that flat bar hanging off the back? One of those horrible plate relocators?
You could probably flip the axle blocks in a pinch but replacement is better.
You can try a wrench to grab the flat spot of the axle nub or use a screwdriver and wedge it between the flat spot on the nub and the ruined block to stop it from spinning.

Do you have a torch? I would heat up the nut where it's seized on the threads, let it cool down and try turning it again. Might need a few heat cycles. Some good penetrating oil to lube the threads too. Obviously you'll have to use something to grip the other end of the axle to stop it spinning, either a wrench or vice grips.

Worst case you can cut off the nut with a small cut off wheel, being careful not to cut the swingarm. You can get a replacement axle and blocks on ebay for cheap.

+1 on a new right side axle block. Yours is toast. It doesn't look that bad in your pic but I wonder if the axle nut is cross threaded or otherwise stuck on the axle. You need to check things out once you get things apart because that shouldn't happen. Might you have accidentally installed it with the axle rotated so that it wasn't properly aligned with the block and it wrecked the block when tightened? I also see some minor damage to the swingarm as if that flat bar had rotated to where it shouldn't be. I agree with boostenlebaron if it's part of a plate relocator. They belong on Harley choppers. The dimension across the flats on mine is 33 mm. The only wrench that I have that's big enough to fit is a 12" Crescent wrench and it won't fit in the available space that well. A monkey wrench might do better.

It is one of those relocators. The bike came with it when I bought a few months ago, definitely want to get rid of it. I tried the wrench idea as you and several had mentioned. Not much room to get it in the tight spot. I'm thinking I might have to go the cutting the nut off route since I can't get it to stay in place.

Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking I may have to go this route and cut off the nut

If the nut is part way off and seized enough to do that, the axle is fucked too. Take a dremel and cut the nut off. Buy a new nut and axle.

Can you suggest some upgrades? I'm fairly new to riding as I only just bought the bike a few months ago, so I'm open to suggestions and definitely plan on upgrading what I can, when I can.

I would like to see you get that nut off with using a torch, even cutting it off would probably make a mess of your swingarm. Have you tried tightening it again while holding the lock nub on the other side? And penetrating oil?

It does look like it is cross threaded. Get a hack saw and saw off the nut, saw in beside the axle, just outside the threads.
Nut will release. Might have to make two cuts.
Saw along the steel plate, to not touch the swingarm.
