Re-Springing Rear Shock

I just got a stiffer rear spring for my factory shock. I have all the necessary tools (spring clamps), now I just need the know-how. I already did a search of the site with no luck...

After I remove the old shock and compress the spring down, I know that the piece opposite to the resivour is where the disassembly begins. How do I remove the spring?
Are there any tricks of the trade to installing the new spring?
Are there any components that need special attention so I do not damage them?
