I'll be picking up one or the either sometime this upcoming winter. I'd like to race the 300 first to gain experience before I start pushing the 600 to the limits so I can build a more solid foundation. If it was your money, which one would you drop it on?

I would buy a track ready ninja 300. Think you'd have better results finding spare parts for in the used market. And also cheaper for parts, and repairs. Plus I feel the 300 has better aftermarket support

300. More parts available, cheaper parts, and just cheaper overall.

I completely agree about the parts availability and expense. I just had no idea if it was that superior of a platform that some seem to claim it is. I've certainly never met anyone who had anything but great things to say about it. Not that anything is wrong with the ninja. Either way, it would be a race prepped for sure. I have a neighbor who was about to go out and grab a new race version of the 390 for endurance racing... Until he realized how small the fuel capacity was :fact The logical part of me will always choose the ninja. The other part wants the KTM just because of how unique it is. But I can't justify the 390 based off that alone :lol

It was really unfortunate that I wasn't able to end up getting one last winter, but with the obstacle from last year to school 5 days a week this year until november, next year will be more realistic. I'm just looking forward putting more seat time in this year when I can.

From what I was told from my buddy that owns, and races a 390. He has the cup bike version. He says the street model actually has the better/stronger motor than the cup bike. I never did any research to verify this since I was never in market for the 390. I had my eyes on the ninja 300, or salvaged titled r3. But that has since changed.

I think the r3 even has better aftermarket support than the r3 does.

I'm assuming you meant to compare the r3 to the ninja. Why do you feel that way? I figured it was still too new for that. If that's the case, I would definitely consider a prepped r3.

Actually meant to type I think the r3 has better aftermarket support than the 390. I can't recall who makes race fairings for the r3. And I think vortex was making rearsets for it. Check vortex, and woodcraft websites to see what they have for the r3.

Ah, that would make more sense. Unless I got a killer deal on an r3, I'll stick with the ninja. That ad you posted though... :drool

They are fun vikes2 to ride, and push on. They suck on long straights, but super fun in the turns. That's what tempted me to buy one.

You're right about the lack luster power... Good thing is that the local track doesn't have very long straights :bounce But that's exactly what I want/need to work on. I do think too many people discredit them though. Riding a 300 to its' full potential is still pretty challenging.

And sometimes humbling. Watching this little 250 waste the bigger bikes in the corniers puts a smile on my face every time I watch it...

Absolutely. It has to be one hell of a feeling to maintain full throttle through an entire corner passing up 1Ks :punk

The 390's like to puke motors when used on track a lot... Stick with the 300. I would get the Honda honestly.

I too have heard that, but never met anyone whose had any issues. Then again, I doubt anyone would be making up stories :fact


That's interesting you brought up the Honda. I personally like it but I never gave it thought since all you really see are Ninjas, KTMs, and now R3s. Care you expand on your opinion?
