Did a pressure test and found the leak. Overflow is emptying about every 8 fill ups. Radiator is good for fluid level. What’s your guys thoughts on the worst that could happen if I go out tonight? Not overheating. Already know what could possibly happen but would like some wisdom on who’s had this happen to them a lot.

I mean, a coolant leak can be catastrophically bad. When your bike gets hotter and hotter during operation, normally the system can contain the pressure. But if the leak allows the elevated pressure to push coolant out right when your bike is the hottest and needs the most cooling, coolant could begin evaporating and not cooling, and you could ruin the engine and/or get stranded.

I would at least do something to fix it before going out. Just because it worked the past 8 rides doesn't mean it won't explode the 9th.

I'd go find a used radiator.

Hope this helps.

I've got another radiator, just wasn't able to get it done today. I am constantly scanning the temps and when I do fill up I am checking the overflow tank. Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone out here believe in the old-school radiator plugging technique of dumping pepper (as in salt & pepper) directly into the rad?

When I was offroading in the 80s, I came around a turn I was used to but there was a freshly fallen branch where it shouldn't be, which jabbed right through the middle of my car's rad. It severed 3 of the lines. My father in law looked at the damage, crimped the busted lines with a pair of needlenoses as best as he could, dumped a shaker of pepper in the rad, topped-off with water and told me to start driving. The pepper would somehow react wherever there was any leak and permanently seal those leaks.

I ran that car for several more years with no cooling issues. No one I've ever mentioned this to has ever heard of doing this. One more try!

EDIT: now that I google it, there are lots of references click
