I bought this bike to use the engine for my 2 seat buggy build. The CCT was missing so I ordered one off of eBay. I took off the cover to view the cam chain but it seemed as though the chain has tension. I took a flathead screwdriver and wiggled the chain around it had good tension. I know that it obviously needs a CCT but I was wondering what could cause this tension. From the research I have done this is what I believe it could be: the owner who had the bike before me was replacing the CCT and zip-tied the chain to the top sprocket to prevent the cam chain from skipping a gear. which would then mess up the engine timing. Could this be the cause to cam chain has tension without tensioner? I have not taken the valve cover off to view the top sproket yet

I think you may have answered your own question? As in, take of the valve cover and have a look? It's easy to get to, right?
