the tightening tool is available from your local dealer or auto parts store. bring in the filter so you can test fit it. and yes, 2 turns is tight, but that is what is needed to keep it from backing out with all the vibration of the motor.

I've never had a problem with hand tight.
if you ride hard at high rpms, a hand-tight filter will most likely back off.

I am sure we dont want the filter coming loose....with a normal strap type tool I could only manage 1 and a third turns max. That is when I wondered this is bloody tight ! thanks for the replies.

As long as you clean and oil everything before you put it together 2 turns using the right tool won't hurt anything. I've always just tightened by hand which is like 1 1/4 turns but I have mine safety wired which you could easily do.

if you use the k & n oil filters, they come with a hole pre-drilled for safety wire.
