Hi All,

I've got an odd problem with my chain or possibly the front sproket. When I first take off, the chain makes an odd grating or popping noise, well at first I thought it was the chain. On closer inspection, the chain is almost new (less than 6 months) is still like new, the rear sprocket has no wear and there are no tight spots at all on the chain and the slack is correctly adjusted.

The chain slider needed replacing (and I thought it was this) but after replacing it the noise is still there.

Could it be the bearings on the front sproket? Has anyone heard this before?

thanks

Have you listened to the noise while running it on a paddock stand? If it is the gearbox sprocket bearing, you'll have to split the cases. Check rear wheel bearings as the torque setting for rear wheel (100Nm) as stated in manual is too high and repeated wheel changes crush the bearings which would cause a similar noise to the one you described. If you think it's the front sprox bearing, try running the bike up without the chain on.
