I recently replaced my original front brake pads with Galfer HH pads & now when braking notice a noise that wasn't there before. It's not a squealing or metal on metal sound but a kind of "whosshing" sound. I'm wondering if this is just the new pads getting bedded in or perhaps the result of a different compound from the stock pads. Anyone else notice this same thing?

mine does that also. Its like a weird noise that the holes in teh rotors are causing or something. I thought it would be broken in after a track day but no, its still there. Oh well, they work good so i guess i won't worry about it. BTW, my rear squeals really loud. I used brake quiet but won't go away.

I was wondering the same thing, I put my pads on a week ago and it sounds like thousands of crickets rubbing their feet when I press the brakes, am I right or just having one of those flash backs "they" promised?

It's the sound of the holes (cross drilled rotors) going past the pads. A friend of mine noticed the same difference when he switched his solid rotors on his car with cross drilled rotors.
Don't know the exactly what property of the Galfer pads cause this to be louder than stock pads but I certanly did notice the difference myself.

whatever:rolleyes

It also maybe the pad material, I have sintered srjl pads and they make noises, and squeek, its that metal to metal grind, well most of the time i dont hear it trying to outtbrake somebody in to a corner over 100mph :) but it could be annoying on the streets i guess...

If you lift the front wheel off the ground, does it spin relatively freely? The reason I ask is that I recently changed to Galfers, and didn't push the caliper pistons back in. The pads were making a lot of noise, and the front wheel wouldn't spin when lifted off the ground. Rookie move I know, but with the pistons pushed back in, they don't make that noise any longer.

I just did my front brakes on my k5 1000 for the first time, and I almost missed it but there was a piece of thin metal snapped onto the old break pad. I almost missed it. It looks like its part of the original brake pad, but it will snap off. Do you have this piece, and did you transfer it to the new pad? That could be it ...

They new pads didn't make any noise at all for me. The pads did stop the wheel for a bit. I could tell because my tire chirped when landing short wheelies for awhile. Once they wore in it spun like usual, but never any noise.

I had Galfer green pads in front and never got squealings BUT my Galfer black compound at the rear squeals a lot. I used too Brake quiet without success. This shit is not very funny to remove after, both on pads and piston.

I use now an anti-vibration backing plate made of rubber/fiberglass.
It has adhesive on the back, you trim it to fit the pads.
It solved the problem at 90%.

I got them from Galfer.I just sent them a email and they gave me first some solutions and finally sent them.

Dennis kirk have some made by SBS part # 19-1268 6.95$ as BRAKE PAD SHIMS.

By the way i dont work for Dennis Kirk,i m just refering to them cause i have their catalog.

HOPE IT HELPS
