Hayden and Repsol Honda team-mate Pedrosa rode the new RC212V 800cc machine, whilst Gresini Honda riders Marco Melandri and Toni Elias circulated on the 2006-spec RC211V bikes on Bridgestone rubber following the team's departure from the Michelin fold.

Loris Capirossi and recent signing Casey Stoner ran the Desmosedici GP-7 motorcycle, and Alex Barros made his debut for the D'antin squad, the Brazilian riding the GP-6 on Bridgestone tires; Dunlop no longer associated with the customer Ducati team.

Valentino Rossi put in the test mileage for the factory Yamaha team on both the 990cc and 800cc machines, the Doctor's fastest laps recorded on the '06 bike. Colin Edwards was absent from today's action.

Chris Vermeulen and John Hopkins tested the 800cc Suzuki engine inside the 990cc GSV-R chassis, with Andrew Pitt and veteran Ulsterman Jeremy McWilliams representing the Ilmor Team on the 800cc X3.

Our sources tell us McWilliams could well ride the Ilmor machine full time in 2007 as Dorna are looking to have a Brit in the series as the BBC have a firm television contract in place with the organisers. Leon Haslam and former Team Roberts rider Shane Byrne have also been mentioned in dispatches with regard a 2007 MotoGP ride.

The test continues tomorrow.

1.7 seconds is an eternity. I'm glad they did it though.
