Hi. I'm looking at removing the left switchgear on my GSXR750 K6 track bike. I've had a search through and just want to clarify before I get snip happy!

I understand that I need to keep the clutch switch in place. Is it simply a case of snipping all the wire apart from the black/orange & black/grey that come from the clutch switch? If I do this before the connector further down then it should be OK?

Thanks

If you've already done away with the headlights, blinkers, and horn, then yeah you can remove those wires I would think.

If it was my bike, I wouldn't necessarily just start cutting, I might try and slide the pins out of the OEM connector and save the wires/left hand controls. You could sell em in great shape, or save them for yourself if you might ever want them again. That way, you can still use the nice OEM plug to the main engine harness, just with the wires you need. Nice and clean, simple, and uses reliable OEM connectors with right length wires. Plus, if you do it the way I mentioned, it's reversible should you make a mistake or just want to undo it.

Up to you how you want to do it. I have seen a few track bikes that are just a horrendous mess of wires. Which is kinda strange, because track bikes have less stuff than street bikes, if anything it should be simpler/cleaner...

Wouldn't hurt to peek at the wiring diagram if you aren't entirely sure as well.

Hope this helps.

+1 on that.

Where are you going with this? If your intent is to remove everything but the clutch switch, you could remove the entire assembly, buy the clutch switch and wiring harness connectors, and run two leads between them. I think the clutch switch connector is Sumitomo 6040-2111.

Thank you. All the lights, blinkers etc have already gone and the right hand switchgear replaced with a simpler on/off arrangement by the previous owner. Ideally I want to remove the left switchgear and the key but think I'll bottle it with the ignition bypass because of the immobiliser!

The previous owner didn't touch the left hand switchgear as he was concerned about the clutch switch issue.

I like the idea of sliding the pins out, makes a lot more sense than cutting. I've taken a good look at the wiring diagrams, but as I'm new to this I didn't trust my view!

Thank you both for your help.

Sorry, just checking one more thing. Looking at the wiring diagram, if I snip the black/white wire from the horn before it joins to the one connected to the clutch switch then I should be OK?

I've managed to slide out all the other connectors, just this one last one I'm a little concerned about as it joins up to the wiring for the clutch switch.

+1 on that. However it sounds like he has a significant problem if he has an immobilizer. The solution there is to turn if off via a flash.

The ignition delete wire kits won't work with the immobiliser unfortunately. I'm happy to keep the key for now but may look at getting it flashed if i decide to remove it in the future.

Wanting to make sure I'm keeping the clutch switch wired up OK so i dont cause any issues there👍

they should its just an inline capacitor or resistor, look around for an ignition/immob delete race wire harness kit, they race these bikes world wide at the world level, SBK, ASB, BSB, MA, EURO, these are ALL factory suzukis trimmed down for duty I doubt they're hand making custom one offs in each garage however you may have to get an all new complete harness it may not be as simple as the front harness delete anymore? may be the entire bag considering they have so much data sensing and electronics so forth, they even use that one clock almost exclusively round the world have you checked with that company for the rest of the kit? or flash it...

Thank you. I'll definitely have a look into the harness kits and see what's available. After an initial, very quick look, there does seem to be some available, although they're quite pricey. For now if I get rid of the stock switchgear but keep the ignition I'll be happy. Although I'm sure that may change given time to think over the winter!

You could consider to remove the whole thing and hotwire the clutch switch at the main harness plug. The bike will work all the same and wont cause errors, the only difference is that you will be able to start the bike whilst in gear without using the clutch. We do it on stuntbikes all the time after replacing the clutch lever for a easypull system like the RSC.
Just my 2 cents 😁
