Looking for a riding comparison from someone who's ridden both a L7+ 1000 or 1000r and a gen4 or gen5 zx10r (these are pretty much the same). Mainly comparing the riding positions, turn in/corner stability, engine character (especially with an exhaust tuned/flashed), passenger comfort. Not super concerned with brakes as I heavily upgraded them on my '11 zx, and would probably do the same if I picked up a gix.

I know that with an exhaust and flashed/tuned, the zx will be 5-10hp more than the L7+, but for someone who has ridden both, is the gix actually slower? Stock 1/4 miles times usually favor the gix. Also, how is reliability with the vvt engine. 11+ zx10r's are known for going 70k+ miles. What's the verdict on the L7+?

Thanks for any insights.

I have both. I track both. The gsxr is the better bike. My gen 4 zx10 is a full race/track setup bike. Other than ergos and internal engine everything has been touched to make it better at the track. Gsxr is essentially full, filter, stacks, tune.

This is from track experience. Zx10 is more work to ride fast into the corners. It's hard to answer the questions because they behave different on the track and accelerate different.

In some regards the softer low and mid make the zx10 easier to manage, at times the better bottom and mid on the gixxer make it easier to make up time.

The R brakes with ABS routing at some point on track will need upgraded. I tried to keep the abs routing with ss lines. I have now bypassed the abs completely.

I'm around 250 suited. The rear shock/spring is getting upgraded. I don't do spring changes on rear shocks anymore. I upgrade. The front will follow with spring upgrades first to try it out.

The gsxr needs rear sets and the clip ons I'm moving forward. I prefer the zx10 ergonomics.

@realpsi I had a chance to ride a friend's 2020 gsxr1000 today, and I have to agree. It is definitely a better bike than a gen4 zx10r. Felt lighter and easier to ride overall. Passenger comfort was on par with the zx, which is important for me.

Ergos for me are better on the Suzuki. It feels like a smaller bike than the zx. Definitely thinner at the seat/tank junction. I like the clip on reach and position. The pegs are ok, I wouldn't mind them being maybe 5mm-10mm higher, but I can live with where they are now.

The quick shifter and blipper are easily as good, if not better than my 1299.

Power felt just a little soft compared to my zx. The bike I rode has a full system, but not flashed or tuned. Also on stock gearing. You could feel the very solid low and midrange. I was just riding casually, so didn't really wring it out. When I get mine, I'm going full system, Mooremafia flash, and -1/+1 on the gearing. That would easily make it on par with a gen4 zx. I'm sure the gen5 will beat it at peak hp, but I usually ride around 6-10k rpm, and the gsxr will have an advantage there.

Brakes are pretty good. Better than the 1299 by far, and I would feel comfortable leaving the abs on with this bike. Probably a set of pads, and Brembo 19rcs, and she'll be good to go.

Probably going to pick one up this weekend, as there are some great deals on leftovers.

What power mode was the bike in? I agree with everything you said on initial impression. Except the power delivery. The GSXR has always felt stronger everywhere. Unless I was in B or C mode(after flash for top end).As my pace has increased at the track, the gsxr stock shortcomings start getting noticed.

No need for details because everyone has different feel and different fits. For me I'm upgrading because I have identified and issue I cannot ride around.

Enjoy the bike!
