Come to think of it, I believe had a -1 on my 03Gix1 and felt that it pulled back on me a bit as if it was dragging. However, How much Top-End mph am I sacrifying by going -1 on my "K5" compare to stock?? Or +2 rear??

K5 best with -1 or +2 rear???

I doubt you'll notice it very much unless you rave with it. I did it to my 600 (which tops out sooner to begin with) and I really didn't notice that much. I went +3 in the rear and I felt a big difference in low end power, but top end in 6th gear wasn't an issue.

if it is geared anything like the '03's, your top speed will be about 170 or so with either a -1 or a +2, but not with both. with both it will be about 163-165.

a +2 rear is great for the street, imo.

yeah, i agree both is way to much power loss on top, but I was in between either on the +2 on rear or the -1 in front. I heard that -1 in front is like +3 rear??

do you need to extend the chain if you go +2 on the rear?

I have been thinking of the same upgrade but I keep wondering about this.......

This is from "Sum of all parts" and they seem pretty knowledgeable about race performance.... What do you think????????

"The GSXR1000 is the king of the hill. The new 05 Gixxer1000 is absolutely amazing. The 01-02 models put a 180HP motor into a 600 frame. The 2003 and 2004 GSXR1000 were so far ahead of the literbike game that it's just NOW that the other manufacturers are catching up. It's in a league of it's own. But one problem the GSXR1000 does have it the absolutely RETARDED first gear. Who needs to go 85MPH in first gear? Not I! But what this will do is increase acceleartion across the rev range! The #1 upgrade for your bike is the 520 conversion, nothing comes CLOSE to it dollar-for-dollar.

This fits all of the GSXR1000 from 2001 to 2005 and increases power response across the rev range. Dyno tests prove that you can reach peak torque and HP an average of .8 seconds faster than stock! Even if your bike is absolutely stock, your bike will go from 0-100MPH in 3.8 seconds. That's the time it takes to get to 11K RPM in second gear.

Stock Sprocket sizes are 17 tooth front 42 tooth rear which has a final drive ratio of 2.47 The optimum ratio is 16 tooth front 44 tooth rear which has a final drive ratio of 2.75. You can increase the rear to a 46 tooth but you will lose approximately 8 MPH at redline in 6th gear. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED that this modification is not for amateurs. Understand that the bike will be termendously different off the line with these modifications. Not responsible for soiled underoos.

Extensive testing on the street, eddy current dyno and on the race track have proven that this is the optimum ratio for your bike, however you may choose any combination of front and rear sprockets for your application.

Front sprocket part 3270

Rear sprocket part 526A

Your GSXR1000 requires the included Premium GB520GXW Gold X-ring chain and Master Link for optimum performance."

Well I am kinda leaning this way...has anyone tried this on their K5???? from my perspective...How often do you go 187 on the street and there aren't many tracks where you can go 187 either...and if this mod helps you get to 170 faster while making the low end torque rediculous then the drive out of corners will be crazy!!!!!!!! and make all of the street riding alot more fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know. I know the optimal setting for the 1000 is a stock front and + 2 in the rear.
Dropping a tooth in the front I feel will be really dramatic for low to mid range. You will lose noticable top end. My 03 has a 520 pitch 17 44T. My 05 has the same setup. This give me an optimal power range. I chose this setting because its not only perfect for the track, but its also pretty damn good for the street too. If you think about it, the 1000 already has enough low/mid to begin with. And when you are on the track, the key in gettin ahead is making up time in the turns.
IMO, go with 44T 17T with a 520 pitch, cause you dont want to sway more one way in low end or top end..you want to be smooth and even across the board

True about being smooth.....I am disappointed in the 2nd gear drive out.....My 03 just felt faster here....I want that and a little more now so that is why I am considering the -1 up front.....I will probably go ahead and get the -1/+2 setup and order an extra 520 stock front just in case the -1 is insane!!!!!! Thanks for the feedback.
