Hey guys I'm new to the Suzuki gsxr world. Just got my hands on a nice 01 gsxr 1000. 23k miles. Now with that being said I'm having some trouble with it and I'm about to pull my hair out. While riding one day in first gear letting the bike pull itself it shut off and the long story short I finally get it home and upon inspection I realized that the rectifier/regulator was burnt on the back side and the connectors were melted together I replaced it and also put in a new battery. I was only getting a click before the battery. Finally got it to turn over but when I turn it on the fuel pump doesn't do the normal 3 second prime it stays running to the point gas will come out of my starter cover my exhaust and overflow into my airbox. I have also put in a new ignition module new relays and I was told that the regulator could have overloaded the ECU and fried it. I need help. I went thru the whole harness and found 2 small spots that were frayed but not badly. I repaired them and nothing. Also if I hold the button down the positive terminal will start smoking. Any advice or ideas?

There's a relay that controls the fuel pump. It in turn is controlled by the ECM. You can monitor the voltages at the relay connector to see what's going on. See the service manual for wire colors etc. If a faulty ECM is turning the pump on all the time, the control signal from the ECM will always be low. Possible but somewhat unlikely.
