If I fit a K&N filter to my standard L0 will it make any difference?

Will it need any fuelling adjustments?

Will I be better saving my money and buying more beer?

The KN filters can be had for pretty much the same price as OEM + they wash up very nicely.. Can visually spot when they need to be lubed back up. I wouldn't just do it to do it, unless you're planning on doing exhaust or what have yous. Won't need additional fueling if all you change is the filter and rest is stock

I did not feel any power gains between the stock air filter and the K&N....more of a placebo effect...

If you plan to keep the bike a while, then yes, it'll pay for itself many times over (cleaning/reuse). But if you're doing it for gains only, don't bother.
No gains with stock everything else anyways. I ended up going with BMC and only thing I really noticed was a bit more engine drone when WOT.
