In light of recent events. As well as arguing about who is a true champion and who isn't. I was wondering if anyone knows what it would take to arrange such a race, done annually. How bout something done post-season. Like RIGHT NOW! Oct. or Nov.
Why isn't this done. Anyone know? I mean, put Mladin, Spies, Rossi, Hayden, .......etc. - all of the "big bike" champions of the last few years in the same race, aboard equal bikes? Possibly a good time to bring in the GSXR750 to get the job done. :thumbup
Better yet. Have all the bikes be bone stock. Only fitted with race plastic and a number. The rider gets their choice of tires, maybe. :scratch

How would sponsorship for such an event work?

they used to have that for ama and overseas superbike. At the end of the seaseon they'd have a USA vs the World race on either a British or American track.

Now all the riders are under contract to race for thier company ONLY. Imagine how pissed off honda would be to see nicky race on a Suzuki. Or Vale back on a honda for one go. It would never get approved for anyone.

What if they all raced their sponsors bikes tuned to specific guidlines?
impossible. the gp's vs street-based bikes would be impossible to do that, especially with maps hidden in the electronics. that's the problem they were having in enforcing traction control.

you'd have to add 4 cinderblocks to the gp bikes to have them match the weight of the streetbikes. and if you have the gp guys jump on streetbikes, we're still talking about which bike is better and the fact that the GP guys don't have experience racing streetbikes (for the most part, anyway).

Well there would always be the argument too, that certain riders are already used to and already sponsored by one certain make of motorcycle. The other teams who are forced to ride a different brand would be upset.

But I like the idea of staying with the brand bike they're already on. Just keep those bitches stock.

And there's no reason why a world pro who can ride a GP bike wouldn't be able to ride the piss out of a production bike and be just as competitive.

What happens when mladin or spies wipe the floor with rossi and hayden? Not saying that it would happen but it could.

It just doesnt make since for the MotoGP riders to join "a race of champions" that adds no value to their motogp career. To risk injury for a worldwide pissing contest would be idiotic for all involved. The "Race of champions" idea would be great for a video game though. Id buy it.

OK. How bout pondering this:

Take all the great champions from the past, Freddie Spencer, etc. and put them on bikes of TODAY, but at their prime skill level, and put them in a race on equal bikes.
Ohh. The possibilities. Of course, this is nothing but fantasy, now. :cool
