I know you'll have to get boots if you go to 38mm's. I had to. I have 3 extra ones if you need them.

34mm's didn't need bigger boots. The OD on the carbs is the same as the 31mm's.

I have been running 36 flatslides on stock 86 boots. It will work but they don't install easily. I reccomend spending the money to get a set of bigger boots. My 2 cents.

Is it neccesary to change the intake boots to swap to bigger carbs on my '86?? And if so, any ideas what to use? I want the response and tuneability of these carbs on my roadrace replica project.

If your using the 38mm flatslides try the intake boots off one of the newer GSXR's preferably the 90-92 1100's I believe they came with 36mm CV's and the flanges were very close in size. The intake boots off the newer 750's are to big and clamps will bottom out before you get them tight.
