I\'m about to modify and would like some opinions...

Hello guys. I have an all stock '98 Gixxer 750. What I want to do is: Full Yosh exhaust, Power Commander and a K&N. How much gain can I expect from this setup? What do you recommend that I do first? How much help is a Power Commander and what risks do I run in using one? Also, how much help is the filter? These questions may sound a bit silly to some of you, but I've been riding for just a year now and I'm still learning.

I guess it's safe to assume that most of you guys can perform basic math so you know how much this particular setup is gonna cost me
...and I don't wan't to buy a bunch of stuff that I don't need. From talking to people I've heard that if you do anything to the bike i.e., exhaust, filter, the bike must be re-mapped. That's where the PC comes in to the picture, right?

Any help would be great you guys! Peace. Shane Little

pipe and pc2 first+you need a map or youll run way too lean(very bad)..so 270(pc2)500-1600(pipe)+150-200(map)...about 8-10 or 12 hp...get the filter last or before the map

Save your money. Don't get a Yosh pipe. Look at some others. M4, Hindle, Akro, Ti Force... The Yosh pipe will not give you the best bang for the buck.

The K&N is a decent choice. It won't help much, but it will help.

All in all, I would guess around 15 HP with a good map.

Adding a pipe and K&N will let the engine breathe easier. The motor will be able to flow more air through the cylinders. Unfortunatly, the EFI system on the gixxers is an open loop system. This means that the EFI won't compensate for any mechanical changes to the motor. The motor will be moving more air, but the EFI will still supply the same amount of fuel as before. This will cause a lean condition. The EFi system needs to be told to add more fuel. Thats where the power commander comes in.

yeah check the For Sale (I think I saw a full Yosh Ti header/mid/can for like $700) for some goodies

I have a special place for the 98 in my heart, so u got mail

def go with the K&N and the pipe. if at first you want to save money, go to your local shop and for about $25 you can get a remap with the Yosh box probably (+5 +5 +5) would be fine to start with. then you coudl get a PC later and a custom map if you wanted.

I have a few custom PC maps if you would like them

also, you shoudl really get to Radio Shack and get some basic supplies and do the TRE and dealer mode mods. check out my page or email me for more info if you'd like. you might as well do the TRE now since I bet you'd notice a difference.... I hardly noticed any but my bike was all modded up before I did the TRE

have fun!!!

i have a slightly used k&n air filter ill sell you cheap($25.00) i took the thing back off my bike when i was told it was costing me between 3-5 horsepower(about 1/2 the horsepower a full exhaust system will give you..i was told this by two different pro tuners(one is very well know in suzuki race bike building)the other was a vance&hines tuner!! let me know if you want the filter, its back in the original box and comes with stickers...

Yea if you can not get to the dyno for a custom map with a K&N you might loose power. If you get a good tuner and a PCII with a good custom map, you might see a few more HP in the low end...

Start with the TRE and remove the PAIR valve. Then get your pipe and a map (the Yosh box will work fine if you can get the cash for a PCII). I also have a few maps on my computer for the 98-99 750s. We you have a few ways to go.

I really like my yosh pipe, it is very smooth... But I also hear a lot of good things about some of the other pipes that dont cost as much...

I have a 98 750, and apart from the Yoshi cams, and a little head work (polished and ported) 20,000 miles ago, it runs the set of mods you are talking about.

I started with the RS3 high-level, it ran like that for a while, then I added the power commander, and a K&N, a trip to the dyno showed that the downloadable map for this combo was extremely close to perfect - just minor fiddling to sharpen the responses at low revs, and it was great.

I added the cams a while back, and honestly have seen no real difference except in the fuel economy (or otherwise - 100miles between fills), and maybe a slightly stronger pull at 6-9K.

The TRE mod I did at the same time as the PCII, so I cannot vouch for the differences.

The major difference in the before and after was the extra urge in the middle, and the cleaner throttle response, plus of course the fantastic noises that it make.

Hey do you still have your map from before the cams??? If so would you be willing to let me try it? I am looking to get a good map but dont have the cash for it yet.

Thanks.

Motorcyclist magazine(OCT 99) did a 12 pipe comparo with the gsxr750. The stock peak power was 115 rwhp on a dynojet dyno. Most pipes with a remap (by a pro) made 122 rwhp +/- 2 hp. The Torque went up a few ft lbs, I don't remember exactly.
good luck

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Sure - I'll send it to you when I get home tonight. I have a whole bunch of maps from different stages of tune.

The downloadable one from the Yoshi site (it mentions street riding with less abrupt throttle) is really sweet, and is what mine was based on.

Yea I have used that map, but it SUCK the fuel down... I have tried a few others, but they have all been from NON CA bikes... I thought that maybe if I had one from a CA bike I would get better responce from it...

Thanks for your help... If you could mail me with it at [email protected]

So is it safe to say that I'm going to sacrifice some fuel consumption with a full exhaust and a P.C.? Approx. how much? Thanx for all the replies! Shane

John -

I could not find the old maps - I think it got lost when I "threw my laptop down the stairs in a temper" last year sometime (I dropped it, but the incident is refered to as that because I had a hissy fit for about three days afterwards).

I'l call the dyno man, and see if he still has it.

As for the fuel "economy" 110 miles is about what I see now - and thats commuting, if I am in the right (wrong ?) mood, I can see 50-60miles between fill-ups.

Bone stock I seem to remember 140+ miles between fills.

However it is more than worth it
