Hello all,

So I brought a 2010 gsxr 1000 with 4800miles on the clock a few months ago and theres a loud ticking on the right side of the engine. The ticking increases with acceleration it is a loud tick with listening to youtube videos and reading up its the cam chain tensioner. Ive read all about manual cam tensioners but im not really looking to adjust every 4k so just brought a oem Suzuki tensioner. I just have a few questions i cant find online, first does the new tensioner need to be bleed once installed as theres what i can see bleed screws? Anyone know what actually goes wrong with the tensioners I've seen its to do with oil pressure? Also is there anything i need to do to set the new tensioner up before turning the bike over does it automatically adjust instantly?
Much thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,
Interesting you posted this in a Member Introductions, no bike related problems?
I've never heard of a bleeder screw on a OEM CCT. Also never heard of a MCCT having to be adjusted every 4K miles. For many people that would be years! LOL. I'm pretty sure the MCCT is adjusted any time a little cam chain noise is heard.
If you can hear it, I'd try to fix it before you ride much more though.

Hi,
Sorry did i post this in the wrong section literally only just became a member on here lol.
No other problems it does hunt a bit on idle but everything else is fine goes like a rocket! But the tick is loud! Ive attached a pic of what I think are bleeding screws some one on another forum was trying to bleed them so thats what has given me doubts to what they actually do! I quite easily put a fair few k miles a year on my bikes so just didn’t want to be Tinkering all the time with it. Yeah its not moving out the garage to fixed lol.

The tensioner design was changed for K9 and I'm not familiar with how it works. There seems to be an inner thread that the plunger rotates on to move in and out. But see 1D-39, particularly 4), and 1D-32 to 1D-33 in the service manual. I think your bleed screws are just oil passage plugs and not intended to be removed. Note that it's important that the timing chain not skip a tooth while the tensioner is out. It's safest to have the valve cover off to assure that. It won't be easy but this will give you the opportunity to look for wear on the chain guides.

" I don't want to be tinkering all the time with it " Well just leave it and don't worry about it ! 🤣 Do you check your tires, do you check your chain, do you check your air filter ? This is a rocket ship. Start a Log Book.

As above if you’re going to remove the CCT it’s best to use cable ties on the cam chain and the cams so it doesn’t inadvertently move.

it is common for it to be noisy before the next notch is reached on the tensioner, what happens is before it clicks onto the next tooth on the ratchet system the tensioner can move ever so slightly but once a little bit more of wear occurs and it selects the next tooth the noise may disappear.
