Hey guys.

I have a k8 1000. It has a full yosi header back setup, goes like a bat out of hell etc. Was told the ecu has been tuned and power modes dont work anymore. anyway, should there be some sort of aftermarket electronic box on the bike somewhere or can they just change the maps within the ecu?

sorry for the tuning noob questions.

Your average cyclist will have a programmer on the bike...Bazzaz, PCIII ect...

im coming off a Kawasaki concours c14 that was tuned by Steve in florida ( if anyone knows who that is, hes big in the concours scene) . he does it the right way by changing the maps within the ecu, no add on box crap.

anyway this k8 runs really well, smooth up and down the range, great in parking lots, no jerking etc. id say smoother then my c14....makes me think its been done right....... anyway i will have to search the bike for a add on box. where would the most likely spot be? its not under the passenger seat.

Do you mean the drive modes? If so, what appears in the indicator?

An add-on box would either be under the tank, under the seat, or in the tail.

Sorry drives modes, A B C etc...... abc will still appear on the LCD but no difference in performance when changing modes.

Others here are more familiar with remapping but defeating the drive mode feature does not sound like doing it the "right way". I wouldn't expect that to happen if a Power Commander, etc. was installed.

Your mode switch should still work in conjunction with a tune, that's odd.

I have disabled mode switch on my bike. It's locked to A mode.
It's pretty normal to disable it. Better to use ms0/ms1 map switch for different maps.
I would argue it's not normal to disable it. It's also not normal/common to have multiple fuel maps on a bike. Great set up you are talking about and nice use of the switch and great way to get max performance, but something that your average guy has done to his bike when he buys an exhaust? No. A huge majority never go beyond the canned tune that came with whatever fuel injection adjustment unit they bought!

If that's average in Finland, I have to come hang out there a while!

Guys,

does every tune have to made special for the bike or can you send the ecu away to be tuned? say a stock bike with a aftermarket exhaust gets this tune and a bone stock bike gets this tune etc.

my mistake, the modes DO work. previous owner was wrong. he only put 700 miles on it and didn't even know the bike. the first owner did all the work. Now i want to know how this bike was tuned.

Easiest route(if you don't have the software/knowledge)would be to find a reputable shop that dyno tunes/flashes Suzuki ECU's,bring the bike there and have them look at the files on the ECU. They'll know whats been changed by looking at it,thus removing any guessing on your part.
Would also be smart while your there,have them make a few pulls on the dyno to verify the AFR.
