+1 on the aftermarket air cleaner and biggest possible opening, in the stock air box.
Also, is there any way to keep water out of pod filters? You know, besides not ever having the bike in the rain/wet.
A company out of CA called outerwears sells a slip on cover/pre-filter that is water resistant and causes very little loss of flow.

i experienced a significant power increase in the upper RPM's with the pods. so significant of an air-flow increase, that the bike would just fall flat around 5K without bigger main jets.

yeah, stock airboxes are good for stock/original bikes.
Why is it that the Yosh race bikes of the late 80s, early 90s all ran the airbox and not pods?

yup take them off lol

seriously though get 2 - 2litre pop bottles and chop off the bottom and make a slit down the side so that the inside gap between the ither filters are still there then slot the bottle over the filters and clamp down on the filter clamps - do this to the two outer pods and it will keep the rain off them - the tank will cover the other 2 - short of that get some yoshi cold feed kit carb covers - airtech sell them and they will cover the pods - but wont keep the rain off them whilst riding :punk
my stock airbox seems much easier..my point about air pressure stands.on a dyno hp figures are different than when doing 200+klm...negative air pressure behind engine:nonoonce again my 2 cents:cheers

Getting the air box rubbers back over the carbs is difficult. I placed a deflated kids bounce ball between the battery and the air box and pressurized the ball just enough to put positive pressure on the boots. The already slightly lubed boots were much easier to persuade back onto the carbs.

I want to believe this but every time I look at my 87 GSXR 1100 H airbox it laughs at me and tells me to fu*k off
I cant see how any twisting and plastic box origami will get that phucker out without dropping the motor or taking a hammer or saw it.

I did like the thread suggestion to cut the frame. Makes complete sense in my rage induced state
