I am wondering how to get a few More hp ( like going from 185 to about 200 hp ) from 2012-2016 GSX-R 1000 and if replacing the camshafts alone could make the bike a bit more powerful .

In an article i read they seemed to say replacing the camshafts was the easiest way to get a bit more power from these bikes but inwonder if that's true and how many hp ps di we talk about !

it seems they were speaking more about the 2017 and on GSX-R 1000 but i suppose it could be true as well for the 2012-2016 ones.

The thing is that there are two types of Yoshimura camshafts available from Yoshimura , the R type and the S type , do you know which one should be chosen ans what is the difference between the two :

Camshaft+tune+full exhaust should get you close, although head work may be necessary. The type S is a less aggressive camshaft that will make less horsepower overall, but will have greater torque. The Type R is going to be a better cam for if you’re spending more time near redline, and/or want peak numbers just to brag.

I suggest making sure you talk to a speed shop/Dyno shop near you about your needs, because it will need to be tuned and getting oversized cams that make it lazy where you don’t want it to be isn’t particularly fun to ride.

the easiest way is to use a 101 octane gas.. maybea race fuel, I've seen up to 5hp gain with a good clean 101 or aviation fuel, how much ya need?
Only by raising the Octane of the fuel, nothing else? I think I'm raising the BS flag on that one.
You can lube the chain and get a few more HP on the dyno too.

I've read about 5+ RWHP just by hooking the crankcase breather directly to the Pair valves though.

And OP, the up to '16, and '17+ 1000's are way different motors- the 17+ having the VVT?

Nitrous.

The Type-S cam is a "spec" cam intended to be race legal. It has the same lift as the OEM cam but different timing. The Type-R has a higher lift and is the more aggressive cam. It may require other changes.

sure, try a good 101 see if its not "peppier" sure can, aviation fuel.. oh boy ... a good race fuel, one reason why they run it, you don't think a pure 101 race fuel is going to burn cleaner and stronger than unleaded garb with alcohol? man where you get your gas I need some..

most these modern gixxers are designed to run higher than an 91 which is what we get, if you're getting 98 octane then no you won't see that much, maybe a few, but they really like a good CLEAN 100+ no jokes, mine do/did, not the Busa tho, its likes lo octane..

Thanks for your answers .
I emailed Yoshimura USA to know the difference between the two but i am not sure i totaly understood what it implies :

":The Stage R Type R camshafts have a higher lift and longer duration compared to the Stage R Type S camshafts.
The camshafts do not really give more power, they move the powerband, and have adjustable cam sprockets to fine tune them as well.
With a thinner head gasket, and a ported and polished cylinder head, you could make more horsepower over the stock motor. You would also have to have run a fuel controller, or have the ECU re-flashed to improve the fueling to match the engine modifications."

Did you read my post, I already addressed that.
