Last year around this time I changed the oil and filter on my '02 750 using full synthetic Silkolene. I then proceeded to ride about 8 times over the whole rest of the year thanks to a heavy work schedule and a lack of people to ride with on my few days off. Those rides only totaled about 300-500 miles.

I've now gone an bought the materials for this year's first oil change, only to notice that the oil in the level window is still almost the same color and consistency as the day I put it in. So the question is this: Since I used full synth (and have been for a few years now), hardly rode the bike at all last year, the oil doesn't seem to be showing any wear, and it's been in a garage protected from the elements the whole time, could I put off this oil change for a little while to get more out of my nearly $100 investment last year?

Thanks

Sealed 5 years.
Opened 12 months.

Choosing to run it after that is not worth the risk in my opinion.

Air breaks the elements of the oil down.
It has been sealed in the engine, if that's what you mean? I changed the oil 12 months ago and then I haven't pulled the oil filler cap off again since then. Does that count as sealed?

I guess I've been leaning towards not changing it already, I just wanted some external opinions to see if I was going in the right direction.

$100 investment? Don't know where you are buying your stuff at but you are getting ripped off. If I rode it 8 times and then had it sit all season I would have changed it during the winter and let the fresh oil sit in the motor.

I could use help with the same question. I have a K6 1000 and run Motul 300V. Street riding only. Last season changed oil and filter around May. Only rode the bike once (60 miles) and stored it in November. Bike is kept in garage during riding months and in my basement off season. Is an oil change really necessary for this season?

Thanks
