I have a 2003 gsxr1000 and I bought it used. The engine sometimes dies out
while I am riding and my red light flashes and f1 appears. I thought it was because
of the kickstand so I disconnected the kill switch to that but that didnt help. So now
I need to know how to read the codes and a list of what the codes mean. Feel
free to send me an email at [email protected] .

Hi,i had this same problem on my '03 1000 this summer and i got this information from another guy and worked for me.

''My bike is a suzuki GSXR1000 K1 year 2001 UK bike.
On mine if you remove the rear seat / cover, the front seat and the 6
hexagonal allen bolts un clip the white plug with 3 x wires :
1) brown 2) black / white stripe 3) white / black stripe, this goes to the
stop / tail lights. then remove the plastic from the sub frame.
you should now see the wiring loom on the bikes near side and mine has :
1 grey plug 2x wires 1) green, 2) black / white stripe goes to indicator
one black plug (looks like a relay unit) with 7x wires
1) black / white stripe, 2) blue / red stripe,
3) blue / white stripe, 4) blue / yellow stripe,
5) blue / black stripe 6) blue / green stripe, 7) red
at the side of this is the one you are looking for
white plug with a black rubber cap over it, 4x pins with 2 diagonally
opposite blocked off and the other 2 diagonals have 1) white / red stripe 2)
black / white stripe
take off the rubber cap and there are the two wire ends with brass plug
fittings. start the bike and the red warning light on the clocks illuminates
and on mine the F1 and temperature flash alternate. put a wire / paperclip /
pin or something similar across the two wires and the F1 now becomes a C
followed by the fault number.''

And then comes the fault code list, hope this will help.

my bike did this to me the other day while out for a ride. riding the twisties like normal and looked down, orange light lit up then the display read FI. i didn't know what it was so i pulled over, shut down the bike let it sit for about 5 minutes. started it back up and all was good. rode the rest of the day and the light never came back on and the display was as it is normally.

this is a new bike to me but any suggestions you guys might be able to make. as far as what i should check out on the bike? its a 2001 600

I know some people don't like to spend a little extra money but jeffw's JDMS seems to be a worthwhile tool for when problems like this come up

JDMS-1 for 2002 and earlier

JDMS-2 for 2003 and later

The JDMS for a 16-bit ECU enables you to switch the ECU into Dealer Mode and diagnose the malfunction part by displaying the associated code on the dash. A mounting location for the JDMS may be selected so that the switch is accessible without turning the ignition off. The code can be lost if the ignition is turned off.
