How do you ladies wear your hair when you ride? I normally ride with mine straight out- not tied back or in a braid.

Just got back from my hair stylist, and I seem to have a "hole" in my hair-- the hair in the middle of the back is breaking off because of my helmet and wind damage. So now the hair on my sides is long and normal, but in the back it's shorter. Danger. :frantic

Anyone else have this problem? :dunno I think that even if I wear it in a braid I'll still have this prob just from where the helmet wears.

Sounds like someone grabbed the back of your head and pulled out handfuls of hair. I've never heard of damage like that from a helmet and "wind damage."

I personally throw mine into a braided ponytail. I sit the ponytail low so it doesnt effect my lid (helmet) position and comfort. wind from high speed is unforgiving to curly hair lol.

My wife does that when she rides too.

haha ouch! doesnt sound like fun..
my hair is pretty long, and i live in arizona. lol. i just tie my hair back at the base of my neck, then following a head tie every inch or so all the way down... i never have issues with my hair breaking or drying out, i also use a leave in conditioner in my hair as it gets hot as balls here in AZ.. Shoei helmet always on :)

I pull a Buff up over my hair. Keeps my hair from flying (including those little peskies ones that like to get in my face), my neck covered & safe from bugs, and my helmet clean. I like it in the heat, too. Can wet it down if needed.

are you keeping the bumpits in while riding?

lol nah but my girl wears a bandana sometimes or mostly just ties it up in a loose ponytail as mentioned. I'd be the first to know if she was going bald on the back of her head :lol she is not. She also wears two braided pigtail braids and has no problems. Sadly, she does not wear that style often enough.

Not a girl, but I have some experience with helmets and shoulder-length hair. I found that my hair was being pulled out out where friction between the hair cuticle and the helmet was pulling out hairs at the root, or 'sawing' them off from repeated motion. One thing I've found that helps is the little UnderArmour heatgear skull caps. It provides a snug fit to keep the whole helmet from sliding, but alleviates the friction from small movements of the scalp, face, and neck. They're about 14.99 and also offer the added feature of wicking sweat up away from your face.

So as a guy with long hair lol:wacko (longer than most women) I have a little experience with this. ha!

I have never heard of that, missing in the middle? ouch!

I usually have my wife braid mine before a big ride or track day and if I'm alone I just put multiple hair ties going down my back like 4 or 5 to keep it all together OTHERWISE I'm screwed! my hair will take days to get untangle if I forget! (I swear if I ever did dreads I could just ride a day with it down!:lmao)
Sometimes I rip out the front ones taking my helmet on and off but that's about it. (or at least it feels that way)
Maybe you should take the above advice and keep yours in a low ponytail or braid under your jacket. but Never just down? .2
:cheers

Good luck!

The girlfriend and I are trying to come up with a solution. She usually carries a toque on her and just puts in on after she takes the helmet off but, she wishes she could ride without her hair going all nuts. Its just mostly her bangs etc. that get messed up, shes got the 50's pinup look going so flattens her hair.

Any females with suggestions for women with bangs??

I just put it in a loose half ponytail half bun so it isn't affected the helmet being on and it also isn't hanging out getting damaged.

i know im not a girl but i have at one point had long hair i just put it up in a loose ponytail as said before and then tucked it down my jacket and also had a buff to cover it all up nicely i always covered it because ive heard through my marshalling circle of a racer with another club being scalped when his long hair got caught in the chain/sprocket of someones bike when they had an off so always covered it up :)
