GSXR Wiring Harness Issues?

3872 Views 39 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  BillV
I have a k7 gsxr 600. So one day im riding and my bike randomly cuts off. Apparently my ecu was fried so I got a new one, bike turned over once and worked, but wouldnt turn back on after it was turned off. Now, the bike wont completely turn over and my fuel pump isnt priming. Me and my buddy have used our multimeter and circuit tester everywhere and the bike seems fine. Anybody have any idea of where to go from here? I replaced my battery and rectifier after the wires were fucked (for the r/r). My dash doesnt come on either, seems completely dead but I get the indicator lights, hi and low beam dont work either. Ive done all I can think, I dont want to take it to a shop but im out of options lol.

Could my issue be the entire wiring harness? Is that common? I cant find a single thread where someone has had my issues.

nothing is shown on the lcd, rpm doesnt cycle, hi beam and turn signal indicators work. I got a new ecu and i still get nothing. The old ecu gives me the same result, and was apparently fried.
Test the ECU on a known working bike if possible.

Sounds like you’re having a ground issue. Checked the fuses?

would the ground issue also affect the fuel pump? I dont have another bike to test it on but when I got the ecu it was "tested"
absolutely. the bike goes through a series of checks when turning the ignition, and the fuel pump is one of the last ones. if you check the manual, there is a way to verify that your fuel pump is working by giving it direct power for testing purposes.

also idk if this sounds crazy but should I try to use starter fluid?
Big NO

Besides the ECU, what other work was done?

Is there a PowerCommander or Bazzaz installed, because that alligator clip for power source is known to go bad.

If the battery and rectifier were replaced, did you check or test your stator? If yes, did you put a gasket on? I just had an issue chasing an issue where there was no stator gasket and it was shorting out the circuit, only giving the starter 7 volts.

is there a power commander or bazzaz unit on the bike?
