Today my bike wouldn't turn on while in neutral. Everything was fine when i turned the key. All the lights were on but when i pressed the start button nothing happened. I had to put the bike in first gear and it started right up. I didnt have time to look for the problem, any suggestions on what might be the problem?

Suzuki hasn't changed the safety system much, so this is puzzling. The starter interlock system also prevents the engine from running if the kickstand is down and in gear. So the fact you can put it in neutral, put the stand down, and it still run makes no sense. Only one of the two switches needs to ground, either the kickstand or the GP switch. So if it was the kickstand switch, it wouldn't start in gear. If it was the GP switch, it wouldn't run with the kickstand down. Is this behavior repeatable?

This is the first time it happened. I was in a rush so i really didnt check it. When it was in neutral with kickstand down the engine wasnt even turning but all the lights were on like normal. So i sat on it put the kickstand up and put it in first gear and it started with no issuse. So i put it back in neutral and put the kickstand down to put my jacket on. It was running i rode to work with no issue the clutch was working fine. So im just as confused as you. The only thing i could think of is the clutch didnt engage the sensor when i tried in neutral.

Do you have a volt meter? In netural with the kickstand down, turn the key on and probe the Black/Orange wire going to the right switch pod. Should have 12V. If it does, then the interlock system isn't the issue. Basically, 12V here shows the system is energized. The starter relay then has two switches, the starter switch on the hot side and the clutch switch on the ground side. If one of those was the issue, it wouldn't start period.

Netural AND kickstand up should be the most "powerful" activation of the system. Starting with only one means it should start with both..... very strange. You're right though, the clutch switch might have not activated just the first time for some reason. If it happens again, don't change anything and just pump the clutch lever a few times. A flakey clutch switch is the most plausible answer right now.
