bike sat up for 4 weeks, now i cant select 1st gear under load, however i can go from neutral to first when pulling off, yet at junctions i cant go down to first, in short first can only be selected when bike is started in neutral....
any help on what is wrong would really be appreciated.

welp, bout all I can think of that can go wrong in this department just sitting is the cable can stretch if its adjusted improperly as in too much tension on it when its sitting, it should always have about 1/8" slack at lever..

a model this age might not be bad idea to go ahead and get all new cables and take a day to install them, both throttle cables and clutch..

download the service manual and follow the adjustment procedures to the tee, then you know you have those sorted and brand new worry free for a long time.. a good way to get stranded is have a clutch or throttle cable snap, least carry new with ya at all times.. adjust it best ya can for now

go from there, likely a cable issue of some sort?
