Hello all,

I was a happy owner of an R6 for 4 years until the day I started getting too much sore (yes even after taking several breaks) on anything more than 2h of riding special in the city.

I'm again in the market for a new sportsbike and I heard that the GSX-R1000 is one of the most comfortable supersport bikes around.

From what I know, the riding position on an R1 is pretty much the same as an R6 basically meaning that you going on the top of the bike which is awesome for the track but not so much fun if you still have to take long rides just to get out of the city!

I'm looking for opinions not from GSX-R1000 biased owners but from people that know both bikes or even better from people that switched from other brands to the gixer for the more 'relaxed' riding position and how that compares to an R1.

I want to get a sense if the more 'relaxed' riding position of the gixer really makes a difference on long rides and if that really justifies buying a gixer instead of any other brand because of that.

As you can imagine, a short test ride will not be enough to get to any decent conclusions.

Looking forward any suggestions and thank you in advance.

Actually, a short test ride is going to give you more information than anything said here. Everyone has a different body with different reach, different core strength, different upper body length, different fat and muscle placement in their glutes that change how tolerant one is to the seat, blah blah blah. That's like me trying to describe how it's easy to flat-foot to someone else that's 5'4.
Go ride it, that'll tell you.

thanks Just_Nick,

I should mention that the first two hours on the R6 were never an issue to me, so depending on the riding angles of the legs, torso etc it may do a difference after a couple hours of riding.

ok I am about 5' 11" I was a mad yammie lover my last bike was a 2013 r1 which I crashed so for a change I bought a 14 model gsxr1000 and will admit I would not go back now the gixxer is more comfy on longer rides and overall a better bike to ride only thing I miss is the sweet note of the crossplane motor

thanks frocket,

that's the idea I have wen I read about the comfort on the gixxer. Glad someone can confirm this when compared to an R1.

I have a Gen4 Zx10R so not exactly what you are comparing, but the 10 has a counterbalance. The 10 has much less vibration through the bars than my 17 GSXR. The vibration doesn't keep me from riding the GSXR, but it is noticeable.

So consider that if you are looking at 17s.

I do think the GSXR is more comfortable than my ZX10. Also, though I have no experience on an R1, I have never read a review on the new ones where the person said, this is the most comfortable supersport. It is always the opposite, track/race oriented.

I never owned a Kawasaki bike. The issue I have with that brand, is the price point. It is always more expensive than Suzuki or Yamaha.

For example, for the 1000cc with ABS Kawa is 1K more expensive.

I wasn't suggesting a Kawasaki. I wanted to point out the 17 GSXR does not have a counterbalance and the vibrations will be noticed if you have prior experience riding a bike with it.

If you're looking for comfort I have never seen anything to make me believe the new R1 is the bike. For me sitting on it it wasn't the position, but all the reviews for the suspension being harsh and stiff.

My ZX10 has the same front suspension as the new GSXR and it provides a nice ride when softened and is more than adequate for my track skills when set up. The new suspension on the GSX-R1000R same as Gen5 Zx10 provide a much better ride and the bike seems to be much more compliant front to rear and absorb road bumps and ripples better. I have zero track time on my new GSXR.

I ride my ZX10 and wonder why I bought a GSXR and when I ride my GSXR I wonder why I keep my ZX10.

I will say this the new GSXR feels like they combined the power of my modified 10 and the suspension of my 2013 ZX6. It feels like it reads my mind on the lines I want.

the new L7 does vibrate much more than the 12-16 gsxr it is noticeable - a minor issue when the bike runs as well as it does
the R1's that i have ridden are horrible for everyday use you are spread out across the top of the bike with alot of weight on your hands. and the engines are not as smooth

when I moved from my GS500 to the R6 I was like 'wtf' is this what it feels riding any supersportsbike?

I guess the R6/R1 are a bit different, you really go on the 'top' of the bike and unless you always ride with a decent speed where the air flow helps offloading your weight, otherwise you can get tired very quickly on a R6 just trying to escape from traffic to ride on quite roads.
