First off, if you really feel you need a bipod, Harris is one of the better ones out there. Most well equipped gun shops carry them.

Figure out if you'll be shooting from prone, seated, etc and buy the length of the feet accordingly.
Secondly, as for "modding" your Savage rifle, leave it alone and spend your money on range time and ammo. That thing most likely shoots better than most young shooters will initially, all day long.
Trigger/range time is key in the beginning.
Trick, high zoot barrels and gimicks are not.

As the title says - can't be the only one. Currently I reload for .223, .380, 9mm, .44 Magnum and 7.92x57 (a.k.a. 8mm Mauser) and just love the Zen of doing it.
It's not so much to save money even though I do save quite a bit on the big rounds, it's just so much more satisfying to shoot loads...
