Gilles rearsets install question

1348 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Hamos
I'm part way through installing my new Gilles rearsets. On the rear brake lever side, the spring from the brake light switch attaches to the lever arm. Is this the only spring that returns the lever? The stock rearset has a second spring to return the lever. There is no mention of this second spring made in the fitting instructions. Is there just one spring as it seems a bit feeble and is attaches to a switch and not something solid.

There's got to be a spring missing, as many riders use the rearsets on a track only bike whereas there is no brake light.
The pressure ffrom the master cyclinder will return the lever. I had Vortex on my 05 636 and didnt hook any springs up. I also didnt have a rear brake light.
yah the master cyl should return it, but like he said...most don't install the rear brake light and just tuck the switch away or what not. Most people don't use their rear brake w/o their front and the fronts will activate it, but the choice is yours on if you want to install the rear brake light switch, etc
I just used a tie down and tucked my brake light switch away. I don't need no sticking brake light..LOL
You are missing the spring, you should have detailed instructions with them for the instalation, follow them step by step and you won't have a problem.

There is no spring missing from the pack, as all parts in the instructions are accounted for. I was just wandering if the sock spring was utilised in any way, but there doesn't seem anywhere to attach it. The instructions are not overly detailed. I did not consider the fact that the master cylinder would return the lever on release. Just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything obvious, as I dont was it all turning to shit once out on the road.
