Yes, scary stuff indeed but also a reality check. Site has been gone for years and just saw it was back. It's said a picture is worth a thousand words, maybe this will work better than trying to convince riders not to treat the street like their private race track.

I've said this before and it's worth saying again. If you are a B level or above skilled MX rider, you are likely a better rider than 99% of sportbike riders. I went from mx to sportbikes and had my first track day within a month of getting my 929. I was moved to the expert group by the instructors after 1 session. Conversely, I've seen seasoned sportbike riders get on a 450 MX on a track and they are ham fisted idiots. I often wonder how many of you who dog on dirtbikes have ever really ridden a fast one skillfully. Thoughts?

This has been debated countless times,I really have zero desire to engage in yet another discussion about it. You took my reply out of context,Im in no way, shape,or form "dogging" dirtbikes.

My reply was based on grown ups who have never ridden a street bike before yet have ridden a YZ80(or similar small cc dirtbike) for a few years prior to reaching puberty..automatically assume because they rode that 80 they have street bike riding nailed down and will go out and buy a GSXR600/750/1000 and be fine. On the flip side,do you think a grown up who has never ridden a dirt bike, let alone a 450 MX bike would be ok learning to ride that bike if they had a few seasons riding a Ninja 250 around town? Most likely they would crash hard before they completed 1 lap

Your scenario of racing motocross on an expert or near-expert level has nothing to do with my comment. Obviously much skill and technique are involved with doing so. I have no doubts a rider at that level of competition will have little to no issues making the transition to street riding.

Next time I will be more specific as to avoid unnecessary confusion. I edited my reply above....

:cheers

I was just genuinely curious what your thoughts were. I've heard a lot of sport bike riders who've never ridden dirtbikes really talk down about them because of their small displacement. I think most people who've haven't ridden a MX bike don't have a clue about how gnarly they are.

You have to understand that I grew up in the era of 2strokes,there were no competitive 4-stroke MX bikes;they were mostly enduro bikes like the Honda XL's&Suzuki DR's or SP's.

Ive ridden KX-500's,RM-465's,YZ-490's(never rode a CR500 though) in the woods/on fire roads growing up...they will spit you off and fuck you up real bad or even kill you. Never rode a modern 4-stroke MX bike as I don't know anyone that owns one. But Im positive they are equally fast if not faster then the 2-strokes and most likely lighter that the old smokers I rode back in the day.
