Guys and Gals,

Wanted to ask opinions on this.

Finishing an 1127/1216 over the next month and wanted to find out which carbs would be better for street riding mainly but an occasional visits to the track possibly. (that's what the 7/13 is for)

Debating between 36 mm Flatslides or 38 mm Flatslides???

Any feedback would be helpful.

I am also debating between going ahead with a 1277 kit on this motor before completion and wondered if that would make a difference......
A buddy of mine wants the 1216 and that would give me the ability to possibly go up to 1277.

Let me know

Thanks,

JDB1371

hey j.d., from what i have heard, either one is good. the 36's will give more low end and all around power. the 38's will give a lot more top end, with good over all power. i am building a 1216 this winter, and i chose the 38's!

I'm running RS38's on my 1216; solid choice for this engine size.

FWIW a buddy with a 1277 in his Bandit moved up from 39mm Keihin's to 41's and said it really woke up the top end... it's primarily a drag bike and he does very limited street riding though, so YMMV.

Different application, but stepping up from 36mm CV's to 40mm CV's on my '96 (1195cc) made a very noticeable improvemnt in midrange and top-end power.

It depends on what you have done to the head.I had a 30/26 head on my 1216 with a clean-up on the ports and was running stock cams and had great results w/ the RS 40's.No bogging or hesitation whatsoever. If your going to go 1277 you will have to resleeve as 1216 is the biggest you can go w/ stock sleeves. If your going to re-sleeve,you might as well go bigger to make it worth the effort and cash outlay.Just my opinion however.
