I have been doing basic mechanical work on my bike before bringing it into the shop for a new drive train and tires. I have also asked them to look into the solid FI light with the FI alternating with engine temp on the dash. It’s a 2007 GSXR 750.

I replaced the oil a week ago and have ridden it once since, only 20km. Felt great. However, when I rode it to the shop last week it seemed to bog out in low rpm, idling was weird too. Puttering / rpm fluctuations when idling or bogging right off the line. So I added this to my already expensive list of things for the mechanic to check out.

I get a call from the shop the next day asking me about the oil light. This is news to me. I know the FI light has been on since I’ve owned it but i assumed it’s due to the exhaust swap, or set value. But he said he didn’t get a code. Only C00. I suggested it wasn’t put into dealer mode correctly. But he’s the mechanic and assured me “it’s in dealer mode”, so I digressed.

He then suggested that because if the solid FI and (now) oil light, that it could be low oil pressure, and was going to test it. But I did just change the oil. Maybe I overtightened the filter, or air is trapped in there? I’ve have zero leakage. Could that have an impact on the oil pump and by extension the oil light… and even cause the bogging at low rpm? It seemed to run fine before, but I’ve only been on a couple short rides with it.

I’d like to minimize my costs here by guiding the mechanic appropriately, but also trying to balance that with staying in my lane. This is new to me. Just learning as I go from my manual and bike forums.

Anyone have similar experience and found a solution?

If it had FI, it had a code. The problem is that the codes go away each time you cycle the key. You should leave it in dealer mode and ride until you see it again. Solid just means the error won't prevent the bike from restarting. Flashing means it's a critical error and my prevent restart. The set valve could explain the behavior if the valve has closed. Oil pressure would have also had an oil symbol displayed.

The FI light has always been no solid. But it has always started up just fine and no idling issues. Sounded great, and I know the C46 is common with the exhaust swaps, so I bought the bike.

I think the mechanic may be looking at this differently, as he has only seen the bike with the FI light and the oil symbol and the bogging at low rpms. This is after a fresh oil change. I didn't pour oil into the replacement filter before screwing it on (I just put some around the seal). I understand air can get trapped inside affecting the pump and/or oil pressure. Do you know if that could cause it to bog at low rpms?

Aftermarket filter? Wouldn't be the first person to have no pressure after a filter change and an aftermarket filter.
