So my ecu is buggered and so is the wiring harness.

I've bought an ecu with ignition and key, and from another seller a new wiring harness, does the wiring harness and ecu need to be from the same bike to work???

How about providing a little more information?...such as the year and model etc.
Once you know that...try again and post in the correct section for your bike.
Then I'll delete this thread...this doesn't really apply to "Riding Skills" as above, does it?
