drive gears are on the input shaft, driven gears are on the output shaft. usually you just replace one gear usually its mating gear needs to be replaced also, and most of the time the gear next to it also since usuallly the dogs get all hammered which is what usually causes shift problems to begin with.

The gears you will need are the two gears on the same shaft as the countershaft sprocket. they are also the closest to the countershaft sprocket. You will need shift cam , shift fork, two gears and gaskets. BTW. 2 nd gear from a bandit 1200 [1998] are much improved and undercut from the factory. They will fit the 86-87 1100.
