question for you guys...when u are downshifting to a stop, do u hold the clutch in and downshift to your desired gear and then release the clutch, or do you downshift 1 gear at a time (releasing the clutch for each gear)?

me personally, if im in 4th and wanna get into second because im slowing down, illl slow down while holding the clutch in, downshift to second, then release rather than downshifting to 3rd, and then 2nd...

anyhting wrong with doing that?

On my k9 I just use my brakes. No down shifting. They told me its a lil tough on the clutch. It's cheaper to by pads than a clutch. Now I have a complex haha. I'm a little curious myself.

It is best to go down one gear at a time.

One, is the engine will help you slow down, and keep the chassis loaded (street or track). It also keeps you in the current gear in case you need to get back on the gas for an evasive maneuver.

It is NOT bad for the clutch. There is no more force applied to the clutch by back torque, than there is when it is driving the bike In fact there is usually far LESS force, not to mention back torque limiters (slippers).

yeah i gotta change my habits. ive always done this on bikes haha....for quick stops though, like when im slowing down so quick that downshifting one gear at a time doesnt make sense, its ok to put it into the lowest gear for that speed im traveling i guess.

I pull the clucth in, lock up the rear tire than when the light turns green I fight with the shifter to get it from 4th to 1st while the mini van behind me tries to drive over me.

For downshifting i go down one gear at a time for the same reason motojoe mentioned. You never know when you have have to speed up all of a sudden. However, when upshifting, ill skip shift sometimes.

I usually skip gears too, but when I'm coming to a stop.
But when someone like John770 is behind me, I take evasive maneuvers into consideration and do it 1 at a time.
Then I throw a bag of marbles at his window and scream Yahtzee.
